Common Theme – Trustworthy Digital Societies

The Common Theme, “Trustworthy Digital Societies”, integrates collaborations between the three Themes which address resilience of democracies in the digital age.
The challenges addressed in Theme 1 “Trustworthy Critical Systems for the Connected World”, such as securing electronic elections and countering disinformation, are closely linked to the privacy properties of software-driven mobility systems in Theme 2 “Trustworthy Software Certification Methods”, as well as the examination of the societal impacts of AI and, privacy trade-offs in regulatory technology in Theme 3 “Trustworthy Agentic Systems”.
These interrelationships—such as those between AI and disinformation, or between communications surveillance, the analysis of mobility data, and user movement patterns in the 6G era—must be examined from various thematic perspectives. This integrative approach requires close collaboration between the thematic areas, supported by contributions from experts on ethical, legal, and societal implications.
