Large-scale quantum computers may soon threaten current cryptography, prompting the BSI (Federal Office for Information Security) and the NIST (National Institute for Standards and Technology, USA) to push for a transition to post-quantum cryptography. In NIST’s standardization process, which provided its first official standards in 2024, we collaborated with researchers from Belgium, Canada, France, and Portugal to analyze proposed schemes. Our work uncovered vulnerabilities in early candidates and quantified the security of others, strengthening confidence in the chosen algorithms that will secure both daily communications and critical high-security systems globally.
