Signature Project

The approach of Topic TruST is most exemplified by the Signature Project “Scalable and Quantifiable Security for the Energy System of the Future”.
Existing defense strategies for large power plants become unfeasible and insufficient for thousands of small devices scattered across the grid (Distributed Energy Resources; DER). The project’s core idea on this issue is to research scalable fusion of multimodal data for attack detection and prevention in distributed energy systems.
This will be achieved by systematically assessing data sources using quantitative risk measures and developing models for integrating information from multiple locations and modalities to reduce blind spots and increase resilience to data manipulation.
The goal is to make the energy infrastructure safer and more resilient against cyberattacks. In doing so, it is not only necessary to address technical problems, but also to consistently consider the societal context.
