External Infrastructures

To perform its mission of application-oriented IT security research, the Topic TruST relies on the KASTEL Security Labs, research infrastructures installed and enhanced since 2021. Those labs provide the real-world components our research is conducted on as well as the specialized competences necessary to integrate them into research systems. Each lab is linked to a larger associated research infrastructure which is not part of the Topic. These external infrastructures are a source of interesting problems and additional expertise in their application areas.

Research Factory

KIT

The Karlsruhe Research Factory for AI-integrated Production is jointly operated by the Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB), the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) and the wbk Institute of Production Technology at KIT. It hosts lab space for our KASTEL Security Lab Production.

KD²Lab

KIT

The Karlsruhe Decision & Design Lab (KD²Lab) at KIT one of the world’s largest infrastructures for research on human behavior and decision-making. It consists of a students’ panel and lab facilities, offering a highly controlled setting and advanced sensor technology for rigorous, interdisciplinary experiments. The citizens' panel “Wir forschen digital” complements the resources provided by the KD²Lab.

Energy Lab of Helmholtz Energy

KIT

The Energy Lab is a project of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in cooperation with the Helmholtz Centers German Aerospace Center (DLR) and Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ). Its Smart Energy System Simulation and Control Center (SEnSSiCC) houses the KASTEL Security Lab Energy.

Test Field Autonomous Driving BW

KIT

The Test Field Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg (TAF BW) is a project of Baden-Württemberg research institutions, local authorities and the state government. It is a laboratory with real conditions for testing mobility concepts. TAF BW aims to promote the development of future-oriented solutions for individual transport and local public transport. The KASTEL Security Lab Mobility cooperates closely with the TAF BW.
